Former New York Yankees player and manager Lou Piniella will serve as the guest speaker at the seventh annual Robert Luongo ALS Fund dinner on Jan. 27 at Nanina’s in the Park in Nutley at 6:30 p.m.
Piniella recently retired as a Major League Baseball manager. He spent the past four seasons as the Chicago Cubs manager. He also managed the Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays.
The event is named after Robert Luongo, a Belleville High School graduate and standout football player who died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
