Clara Maass Medical Center recently marked the opening of a 20-bed Transitional Care Unit for patients who no longer need acute hospital care but are not ready to be discharged to home.
The TCU is located on the second floor of the Clara Maass Medical Center Continuing Care Center building at One Clara Maass Drive in Belleville and is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.
The TCU is managed in partnership with the Saint Barnabas Health Care System Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers.
Typically, patients are admitted to a TCU for the following types of care: cardiac recovery, post-surgical recovery, oncology and pain management, pulmonary management, skin and wound care, and complex medical management. Individuals may stay in the unit for up to eight days following a three-day hospital stay.
