BHS track teams enjoy fine efforts this season

The Belleville High School boys’ and girls’ indoor varsity track and field teams enjoyed fine seasons.
Sherece Shabazz and Vanessa Ackon sparked the girls’ team, which finished third overall at the Essex County Relay Championships and won its first track trophy in school history. The girls’ team also finished in fifth place at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 Championships.
Bryon Cure sparked the boys’ team.
Here are their highlights:
• Sherece Shabazz, 55-meter dash, finished third in the Essex County Individual Championships behind Jasmine Carter of Columbia and Dominic Booker of Montclair Immaculate.
• Vanessa Ackon, 800-meters, finished second in the Super Essex Conference Championship meet, medaled in the 800 and 400 at the State sectionals and the Essex County Individual Championships and broke the school records in the 400-meters, 600-meters and 800-meters.
• Bryon Cure, 3,200-meters, finished fifth in the Super Essex Conference meet.
