BHS indoor track teams give valiant efforts at Essex County meet

The Belleville High School boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams gave good efforts at the Essex County Individual Championships at Seton Hall University last Sunday Feb. 5.
The top three girls’ team were Newark Tech with 72 points, Columbia with 67 points and Mount Saint Dominic Academy with 38 points.
In the boys’ competition the top three teams were St. Benedict’s Prep with 91 points, Columbia with 58 points and West Orange  with 47 points.
Despite not scoring any points in the meet, Belleville had several outstanding performances.
Kristy Bono finished in seventh place in the 1,600-meters with a time of 5:38.11. Bono’s time set a new Belleville school record. The old record was held by M. Cifelli with a time of  5:38.6 during the 1997-1998 season.
