The Belleville High School girls’ varsity basketball team won its past two games to improve to 5-8.
Chassity Sousa scored 16 points and added five rebounds and four steals and Tia Silas had six points and eight rebounds in the 47-8 win over Christ the King on Jan. 19 in Newark. Lorena Garcia also had two points and eight rebounds, Rachel Estrada had five points and Alison Samangieo had four points in the win.
Samaniego and Sousa each scored 15 points and Jordan Mosley had 11 points in the 64-51 home win over West Side this past Tuesday Jan. 24.
Sousa also had 12 rebounds, Mosley had eight rebounds and steals and Silas had six points and nine rebounds. Dana DePalma had six points and three steals and Samantha Samaniego had four points and four steals in the win.
The Bucs are the No. 24 seed in the Essex County Tournament and will visit No. 21 seed Newark Academy in the first preliminary round on or by Saturday. The winner will visit No. 12 seed Caldwell in the second preliminary round on or by Feb. 2.
