BHS' Colon advances to State wrestling tournament

Belleville High School wrestler Justin Colon qualified for the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament for the second straight season.
Colon, a sophomore, finished third in the 112-pound weight class at the Region 4 tournament at West Orange High School on Feb. 27 to qualify for the State tournament, which will be held March 5-7 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
In the third-place consolation, Colon decisioned Devrin Egipciaco of Passaic Tech, 3-1. Colon beat the same wrestler in the quarterfinals.
The top three finishers in each weight class earned State berths.
Colon finished third in the District 14 tournament the previous weekend at Livingston High.
Last season, Colon won the 103-pound title at the Region tournament.
Sophomore Joe Anello, senior Oscar Cabrera, freshman Nick Fruncillo and senior Chase Hamilton also represented BHS at the Region tournament.
Anello, who won the District title at 152, lost in the quarterfinals to District 13 champion Evan O’Keefe of Glen Ridge. Anello then was eliminated in wrestleback quarterfinals.
